What are your most memorable moments in school? While you may not remember most of your grades, you will recall specific experiences and the people you shared them with. You’ll remember those who challenged your thinking, encouraged you to explore your limits, and provided opportunities to shape your worldview. Given that a significant portion of a person’s life is entrusted to teachers, it is critical that they recognize the potential impact they have in shaping a child’s path to success. It is a failure of both teachers and the educational system when a child returns home and says, “school was boring.” Hardworking parents should not have to sacrifice family dinners around the table to supplement their child’s education with after-school programs and activities; school should be the place for enrichment. Each day must be filled with lessons carefully crafted like a delicate symphony, guiding students through a process of self-discovery, igniting their imaginations, and filling them with wonder. Learning experiences must be indelible; if not, what are we creating them for?
